When installing a fiberglass pool, there are several features and options you can consider to enhance your pool area. Here are some common water features and add-ons that can be installed with a fiberglass pool:
You can choose from various types of pool steps or ladders, such as built-in steps, drop-in steps, or stainless steel ladders. These provide easy access to the pool.
Underwater and above-water lighting can be installed to create a visually appealing and safe swimming environment. LED lights are a popular choice due to their energy efficiency and longevity.
You can install a pool cover to protect your pool when it's not in use. Options include manual covers, automatic covers, or solar covers to help with heating and reduce water evaporation.
Adding a waterfall or fountain feature can create a beautiful and soothing ambiance. These water features can be customized to fit the design of your pool.
A tanning ledge can enhance the appearance of your new swimming pool. With their tranquil, shallow waters and elegant design, tanning ledges offer an unmistakable sense of luxury, inviting pool-goers to bask in comfort and style. These elevated platforms offer a sophisticated and relaxing sunbathing experience, turning your pool into a haven of opulence and leisure
If you want to extend your swimming season or enjoy comfortable water temperatures, consider installing a pool heating system. Options include gas heaters, heat pumps, or solar heaters.
If your pool has sufficient depth, you can install a slide for additional fun and entertainment. Make sure to check local regulations and safety guidelines.
Automation systems allow you to control various pool functions, such as lighting, heating, and filtration, using a remote control or mobile app. They can provide convenience and energy efficiency.
Choose from various materials like concrete, pavers, or natural stone to create a functional and visually appealing pool deck area. The deck can provide space for lounging, sunbathing, and outdoor furniture.
Install safety measures like pool fences, alarms, or pool covers with safety features to ensure the well-being of swimmers, particularly if you have children or pets.

Use this list to start your scope discussion, then confirm your chosen features, deck work, landscaping, and fencing in your project proposal.

If you’re considering installing an inground fiberglass pool in your backyard, it’s important to understand the timeline for the project. Fiberglass pool installation typically takes the least amount of time to install if you shop our in-stock fiberglass pool collection. If you choose to design your own custom swimming pool, these estimates will take longer.
Here’s a breakdown of the typical timeline for installing a fiberglass pool:
The stage estimates below are planning guidance, not a guaranteed completion date. Confirm a schedule for your property, especially where permitting or septic requirements apply.
The first step in the fiberglass pool installation process is design and planning. This stage involves meeting with our swimming pool contractors. You’ll work with the contractor to determine the size, shape, and features of your pool. This stage can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design and how quickly you can make decisions.
Once the design is finalized, and the pool builder selected, the swimming pool contractor will obtain the necessary permits from your local building department. The permitting process can take a week or two in some counties up to 3 months in parts of Wake County if you have a septic tank. We build in some counties where we can have a permit in as little as two days! The timeframe is varied greatly by county and township. Once the permits are in place, the contractor will excavate the area where the pool will be installed. This stage typically takes a day.
Unlike other types of pools, fiberglass pools are manufactured and shipped in one piece. This means that the installation process is typically easier and much faster than other types of inground swimming pools, as the bulk of the work is done during site preparation.
After the pool is installed, the contractor will backfill the area around the pool with gravel or sand. This provides support for the pool and helps to prevent shifting over time. The swimming pool contractor will also install the pool’s plumbing and electrical systems during this stage. This typically takes 1-2 weeks.
After the pool and plumbing are installed, a concrete contractor will begin work on the pool deck. With Parrot Bay Pools, you have options of choosing your own concrete contractor or we offer stone hardscaping and travertine in house. This stage typically takes 2-4 weeks. You will also need to hire a landscaper to finish your grading and add your landscaping, grass, and fencing.
The weather in your area can have a big impact on our inground pool building process. In general, it’s best to start building a pool when the weather is mild and dry. This will ensure that the construction process goes smoothly and that the pool can be finished on time.
Parrot Bay has been installing pools for over 15 years across 18 counties in central and eastern North Carolina, now expanding to parts of South Carolina.
We offer in-stock selections of fiberglass pools for a faster build time and less waiting.

★★★★★I’m very pleased with the team, the installation, and the product from Parrot Bay Pool & Spas. My family loves the water so we went with the large model “The Tropic” and we also added a spillover spa.
From the very beginning, Christine (sales) was such a pleasure to work with and was there every step of the way to ensure my family and I had all the information necessary to pick the product that best suited our needs.
Once construction got rolling, Seth, Jeff, and Kyla were also there every step of the way to ensure a quality installation. Big kuddos to Jeff and Kyla as they had to make a few trips out to the house to make minor tweaks, adjustments, and complete a warranty replacement. Each time they were extremely courteous, professional, and explained everything in full detail. My next door neighbor was so impressed with the product and my word of mouth review of the company/process, that they actually bought a pool next. Great job & thanks again guys‼️

★★★★★We love our new pool! We called so many companies and no one would call us back or give us good service and Bradley was great from the first e-mail! You wait your turn and then all of a sudden you have a pool in the matter of two days. It’s awesome!

★★★★★Exceptional service throughout the entire process. The team’s work is unmatched, and everyone you encounter is knowledgeable and extremely interested in making sure you get exactly what you set out for. I would highly recommend Parrot Bay Pools for an upcoming project to the point where if I ever move I will be contacting them to install another high quality pool. Thanks Parrot Bay Pools for your work and dedication to making sure my family enjoys a beautiful retreat in the comfort of our very own backyard.

★★★★★Thank you guys for such a wonderful family pool! We had placed a deposit with another company in February and after months of no return calls cut our losses and were so afraid to try someone else. We really wanted a pool and so went with Parrot Bay and were swimming within three months of signing our contract! We waited more than that for a return call from the previous company! Just go with Parrot, they cost a little more, but are well worth the money.
